Crucifixion Du Jour

That’s the signpost up ahead – your next stop?
Let me first say that I have been working on and off on this piece for nearly 2 years. I finally had to get it off my plate – and although it has a few flaws, mistakes and anomalies – I’m finally happy with it – and finally free from it.

This started out as a message piece trying to show how religion is being replaced by technology. How, as the world gets smaller and smaller, the more things become less “miraculous” through knowledge and advancement of the mind. Basically how religion is being crucified by technology. Being an agnostic in the year 2011, it is hard for me to believe that the maker of the universe used to have his children sacrificing goats to him. 2000 years ago, maybe. Today – not so much. But I digress… and I don’t want to do that.

Second – it started taking on the form of a futuristic tarot card. In the background, the post-apocalyptic city is in ruins – yet, the sparks of humankind can still be seen lighting up the windows. The technological video monster slash torture device is both sentient and mobile – floating through the streets with a warning of what happens to those who practice “free-thinking”.

Pretty much all done in Photoshop CS2, starting with a wacom 3 and ending with a wacom 4. I got lazy with the road and brought in some photo textures. Various brushes, photo references of 1950 style TV sets (I first tried it with modern day looking LCD screens but it just did not have the same effect).

Thanks for looking.
